1. What can you tell us about yourself?
I was born in Germany, where I lived the first years of my life. I studied interior design, though I worked only a few years on this after graduating. I’ve taken many different jobs just because I wanted to gather experience in different fields since I get bored easily. I started cooking at a very young age though I’ve never taken cooking lessons or worked professionally. I just loved to cook and good food! After I was about 19 I stopped cooking because I lost my interest. My love for cooking returned when I went vegan and started experimenting on new recipes. I’ve been vegan for almost 13 years. I created my blog Beets me because I wanted to share with the world what I had learned over the years. So, since March 2019 I have been sharing each week 2 new recipes. In September 2020 I created a little cooking show on YouTube where I present each week a new recipe.
2. What does veganism mean to you?
Veganism for me is a moral compass. Knowing that my actions are in harmony with what I stand for as a person. Not measuring each life in a different way. We are all the same, we are all equal. And at the end of the day we all want the same thing. Love.
3. What led you to follow the vegan way of life?
The reason I turned to a plant based diet was health issues. Following a strict diet solved and problems that I had in a couple of months. But at the same time I felt the need to dig into veganism a little bit more. I started watching documentaries and educating myself. During this time I watched earthlings. The realization that my actions have consequences was shocking. And it was this moment that I decided that I would never go back.
4. How easy or difficult it is to be vegan today?
Especially in our time it is extremely easy to go vegan, since there are so many products in the market that can cover every need. And each year new products come out. Furthermore everyone can find the information needed regarding veganism in order to educate him/her self.
Of course this doesn’t mean that some years ago it was difficult. I went vegan in a time where we didn’t have any products, and despite that I did it without any issues. My point is that veganism needs you to put aside for a moment yourself and think about others, and once you make that connection the lack of products won’t be an issue anymore.
5. What is your favourite recipe?
The truth is that I don’t have a favorite recipe. I love food so many recipes are favorites. If I had to choose one it would be pennes il diavolo (a recipe I still haven’t uploaded), my chili sin carne which I absolutely adore, falafels which I find very easy, or my gyros recipe.
6. Do you have a favourite product to suggest?
There are many products that I love but if I had to pick one it would be seitan. Just because you can make so many different things with it. There are no limits when it comes to flavor, texture and shape. It is a bit difficult at first to handle but once you get the hold of it is very easy!
7. Are you inspired by any animal? If yes, which one?
My answer is probably very common but if I have a spirit animal it is definitely a cat. I love their sense of freedom, their will to discover the world and the fact that they show their love without expecting something. Cats love you because they choose to, not because they have to.
8. Any more comments?
If we could all see the world just the way we did when we were children we would all be vegan now. As children we had the ultimate connection with our inner self. So just go vegan! For the the animals, the world and humanity!
